Double Arrow Art is a comment on the fast moving society we live in today. Every day we are bombarded with the latest and greatest innovations to make our lives easier and better.
And the adage of stopping and smelling the flowers is more and more called for and less and less heeded.
In our fast paced world, heritage and cultural traits are constantly being homogenized -
leaving individuals that on the first appearance seem to be similar but, as you peel away the layers, are very different.
This layering is conveyed in my paintings, metal, and ceramic sculpture. I hope it is evident, but of course if you have any comments or questions, don't hesitate to contact me.
My work asks
the viewer "what
does it mean to be American?"
In ceramics by using leftover comsumer goods
to make polictical and social statements.
And in painting
by painting "veils" to thicken the image and obsure the original
concept or tradition. Painting is a medium that allows a ready way to use and see layered effects -with the shower curtains or the veils. The collages are a bit more personal, and because of that may be a bit more difficult to understand. Most of the collages deal with growing up & with the military influence in my life. I tried to display the rights and wrongs of this influence.
